I had an older model AcuRite weather station that worked for years...until the outdoor sensor died. Since the old model was discontinued and AcuRite had no compatible sensors for it, I had to get this new one. (BTW, someone here said customer service was nonexistent. I contacted the company via their website and got a quick response, including which model would be a similar replacement for my old one.)The old model featured an atomic clock, which is supposed to sync to a radio signal. It only worked intermittently, so it wasn't particularly reliable; I often had to reset the time etc. manually, especially after changing batteries. This model has a backup battery built in so when you change the batteries it remembers the time, date, etc. settings -- much more convenient.BTW, the picture here of the base unit sitting on a table is misleading. It looks like the unit could easily fall over. Actually it comes with a plastic stand that the unit snaps into, which makes it quite stable. (See my picture.)I'm almost completely satisfied with this weather station. It provides the info I want on an easy to read display. I use rechargeable batteries in the base unit and haven't had to replace them in months. (A warning sign flashes on the display when batteries are low.) I only had to replace the standard alkaline batteries in the remote sensor once. The remote unit also has a very strong signal.I have only one quibble. The remote temperature/humidity readings went haywire last week -- said it was -27 degrees, in June. The signal indicator on the display was blank, showing no signal. At first I thought the remote sensor's batteries had died, even though I had replaced them less than two months ago. But when I checked them on a voltmeter they were almost fully charged; also putting in new batteries had no effect. Then I suspected something in the base unit must have failed. Hours later, I finally was about to contact AcuRite for assistance when I saw that the remote sensor was working again normally. It's still working over a week later. That's the only glitch I've had with the product, and I have no idea what caused it.Aside from that I'm completely satisfied.
