I bought this hoping it was a "dumb" charger. It apparently IS! Which is exactly what is needed to to charge my aftermarket(i.e. clone) "Thinkpad" battery. Since about 2012-3 Lenovo added a BIOS change to Thinkpads which 'whitelists" only certain officially approved batteries. If you buy a battery which is not on the list. the Thinkpad will run from, but will NOT recharge that battery. This unit is "just' a charger, so it charged my aftermarket battery without asking questions! YAY!
