Vonets VAP11G WIFI BridgeI had a Y-CAM Knight S IP Security Camera that had appalling Wifi performance, but had a great video performance other than that. Specifically it had an excellent wide field of vision and sound. So I needed to make it work! At first I attempted a HomePlug (LAN over the house ring main cables) network, this proved unreliable.I purchased the Vonets VAP11G Wifi Bridge with the intention of plugging it into the IP Camera's LAN port, thus bypassing the inbuilt poor performance Wifi. This worked perfectly and took less than 5 minutes to configure! A really great feature was the ability to daisy chain the IP Camera power supply into this unit and then plug the unit power cable into the camera's power supply. Thus one power supply feeds both IP Camera and Wifi Bridge.The Vonets VAP11G Wifi Bridge was connected to power via the laptop USB port and plugged into my router. I had to install a utility to locate the VAP11G Wifi Bridge and configure the Wifi. After scanning your network, it displays the device address (just the one in my case), select it. Then it scans for available Wifi connections, just pick your home one. Next you are prompted for the Wifi password, enter this in the program and click Next to save the settings. Job done - unit configured!I now connected the LAN cable on the Vonets VAP11G Wifi Bridge to my IP Camera LAN port/socket and the IP Camera's power supply into the Vonets VAP11G Wifi Bridge. The Bridge in turn has a power lead you can now plug into the IP Camera. As my IP Camera is mounted just above a cupboard, the Bridge sites on top of the cupboard.What is nice about this power arrangement is very simple operation. Switch off camera power supply and Wifi Bridge follows it. Perfect and cheap. I would definitely recommend this unit.This is suited to people with very moderate to low IT skills. If the prospect of having to understand IP addresses and new software disturbs you, then look at the Netgear Universal Wifi Internet Adapter (WNCE2001), which is more expensive but just button presses on device and your router if the router is equipped with WPS (Wifi Protected Setup). I also own and configured that unit with a different LAN IP Camera, with equal success.
