Setup is a breeze as long as your computer "auto-plays" when you plug it in- and you aren't a no-patience idiot like me.The computer I was installing this on was not set to not auto-play on thumb drive insertion and it didn't occur to me immediately to look at the thumb drive in Windows Explorer (xp). I didn't see the little blurb on the silver inner box portion instructing to "open the Cisco Valet Connector Setup Folder and click setup". It doesn't tell you where that folder is, and in retrospect it probably should have been apparent to me that I had just essentially plugged a thumb drive into my computer.... (duh... doh!) but as it is packaged plugged into the stand with extension cord (and actually taped in place) this wasn't immediately obvious to me.So I waited for something to pop up- nothing did. I then stared at the three pieces of the box a bit puzzled- I wasn't expecting a disk, since they're a bit archaic nowadays, but really just some clear instructions. The only other thing in the box is a little leaflet. That little folded bit of paper ironically turns out to merely be an advertisement for how easy setup of Cisco Valet products is. It starts with the phrase, "Welcome to the new home wireless experience" and as you unfold it, each page is titled something like, "Connect", "Work", "Smarter", "Live", "Play", and the final one, "Get Started", followed by the sole instruction, "Plug in the Valet Connector into your computer" (verbatim). Great so much for easy, and this little bit of marketing is not just failing to resonate with me, it is honestly a bit insulting, as I'm clearly not smart enough for easy to work. I flip over the unfolded leaflet hoping for a bit more clarity where exactly the drivers come from... and all I find is "for help with your Valet product, visit ciscovalet.com/support or call (877) 500-8070 (hard to visit a web page on the computer which is not yet connected, and no I'm not going to call a danged 800 number and be put on hold only to get somebody I can't understand or doesn't understand what I need and is only reading a script off a screen, and who doesn't work for Cisco and who doesn't really care whether they can help me). My blood was all set to boil, but then the light bulb went on and I found the setup on the "thumb drive".From there it was a breeze. It is connected at 144kbps to my Cisco LInksys E2500 N router halfway across the house with plenty of signal and seems to work great. I like the "stand" which is essentially an extension cord to allow you to get the antenna up and out from behind your computer where it can connect better. All in all, pretty slick, though the packaging could be just a bit more idiot-proof :)
